Modern BMW cars are some of the most technologically sophisticated vehicles you can find on the roads today. Designed for exceptional elegance, handling, security, and convenience, they remain one of the world’s most sought-after luxury cars. BMW Comfort Access is one of many features that demonstrates the futuristic aspects of a new BMW.

What Is BMW Comfort Access?

Automatic Unlock and Engine Start

Comfort Access is a keyless entry system for your car. It detects you when you’re approaching and unlocks the doors automatically while readying the engine to be started at the touch of a button.

When you have Comfort Access activated, the unlocked doors will open when you merely touch the door handle: you don’t even need to pull it. The system can also remember your preferred seating position and various other comfort features and adjust them accordingly as you approach.

No More Digging Around for Keys

As a modern BMW driver, gone are the days of awkwardly digging around in your pocket or bag for keys while carrying shopping bags. Given how incredibly logical and convenient this system is, it’s quite likely that all doors will work in a similar way in the future: once the rest of the world catches up with BMW, that is.

How Does Comfort Access Work?

The presence of the key in your pocket is detected once you come within approximately five feet of the forward doors on either side of the car. The system isn’t strictly keyless, as you still need the key on your person.

But you no longer need to take your key out, insert it into the lock, and pull the handle. Nor do you need to insert the key into the starter to start the engine. In fact, the key never needs to leave your pocket.

How To Exit Your Vehicle

When you want to exit the car, once again, there’s no need to reach into your pocket or purse. Simply turn off the engine with another touch of a button.

Then exit the vehicle and lock the door by touching an exterior button on the handle. Even if you forget to lock the door yourself, Comfort Access will automatically lock as you walk away.

Opening the Trunk

Once your BMW is unlocked by your proximity, you can open the trunk by lightly sweeping your foot under the rear bumper. The power liftgate will swing the trunk hatch open for you: another handy feature for anyone with their hands full of shopping bags.
