What’s New for 2022
While the 2022 4 Series comes with some minor changes, these changes are more than worth noting. The high-powered M440i coupe now has a rear-wheel configuration available. This is a big deal for serious drivers. All trims also come with ambient lighting, and the Premium package includes powered-lumbar support, a head-up display, and gesture controls for the infotainment system.
Trim Choices
As a buyer, you are spoilt for choice across the 2022 4 Series trims and configurations. The 4 Series offers two-door coupes and convertibles available in 430i, 430i xDrive, M440i, and M440i xDrive. Essentially, you have two groups of trims. The standard group includes the Coupe, the Gran Coupe, and the Convertible, and the M4 group includes the M4 Coupe and the M4 Convertible.
Powerful Engine Options
All engines designated 430i are turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engines producing 255 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. The M440i is loaded with a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six monster that is paired with a 48-volt hybrid system to produce a thumping 382 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque. All power plants are paired with an eight-speed sport automatic transmission. The transmission features a Driver Selectable Mode and a STEPTRONIC Sequential Shift Mode with steering wheel controls.
Fuel-Efficient Performance
Your 2022 4 Series four-cylinder 430i coupe will give 26 mpg in the city and 34 mpg on the highway. The advanced all-wheel-drive (xDrive) configuration only reduces the mileage by around 1 mpg. If you are driving the high-performance six-cylinder M440i, you can expect around 22 mpg around town and 31 mpg on the open road. The advanced xDrive version of the M440i also drops a tiny amount of mileage in exchange for a radical increase in traction and stability.
Infotainment, Entertainment, and Connectivity
All of the 2022 4 Series come with a standard 8.8-inch and optional 10.3-inch infotainment screen. The infotainment system runs on the latest BMW iDrive 7 software. The system can be controlled via the console-mounted click-wheel or through the touchscreen. Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and a built-in navigation system are standard. A digital gauge cluster, onboard Wi-Fi hotspot, and a wireless charging pad are optionally available.
